I already posted this on my own page, but I think it bears posting here as well, given its relevance to the group...
So I was at Wizard's Austin Comic Con this last weekend. Having a great time- meeting cool people and making new friends. There was a big Doctor Who presence at the Con (any con has Tennants, Bakers, and Smiths- but when ya see a William Hartnell cosplayer you know you're at a Con with a capital "C"). Got to talk to a bunch of great Who and Godzilla fans at my table, though my favorite person had to be the kid who looked at my IRIS ABROAD cover and asked, "Why is that panda drinking beer?"
Then a friend comes by my table and looks at my Eleven Doctors pic...
"You know, I've seen other people selling this."
"Yeah, what can ya do? Some f***er ripped it off and made it into a t-shirt on Australian eBay. I'm sure they weren't the only one. It happens. Perils of fan art, dude."
"No- I mean... I've seen a guy selling it HERE."
(dramatic pause)
(in a Harrison-Ford-esque growl): "WHERE IS HE?"
I walked over, and sure enough, there was my art, along with a lot of other ripped BBC photos being sold on 11x17 posters. There were also a lot of other pics by artists I know. I told the acid-casualty-lookin' ponytailed hippie working the booth that the jig was up, and whipped out some of my originals to show that I was indeed of the artist he was ripping off. He gave me a "plausible deniability" rap, saying he got them from another seller in California. I pulled out everything I could find by people I knew and he claimed he would destroy them. I should have said "leave that to me" and walked off with them, but in the heat of the moment, I kinda blanked (I tend not to be at my cleverest when I'm insanely angry). The con was going well, and i didn't want to stand around all day dealing with the volunteers resolving some war over five posters. But I told the guy that I, and the people I told this story to online, would be watching from now on...
That said, I did have the presence of mind to quickly shake the guy down for half of what he claimed to have made on my poster. I'm sure he lied- but the fact I "made him pay" in any way at all provided a glimmer of satisfaction.
So folks, if you see my work for sale by anyone but me, just know that the seller is a creep who deserves your spit, not your dollars.
These are the pics I found being sold (but I'm sure there are others "in the wind"):

Let me know if you guys spot anything else out there. Get the bastards' names. Hell, get their pictures if ya got a camera phone on ya.

Group (very) briefly open again. Kinda sorta.
Just letting folks know that I decided to clear out a backlog of stuff in my favorites folders that I had earmarked for the Museum (about 30 pieces, and yes, including 2 of my own). Even though submissions are still closed (I'm just too busy to manage this place regularly), I do keep my eye out for new work- so new stuff will probably be popping up here over the next week as the various artists' approve my requests.
Hope everyone had a happy Halloween. :)
Powering down for a while... submissions closed
It saddens me to say this, but I've decided to close submissions for an indefinite period. My professional life has been getting busier lately (in a good way), and I'm not going to have the time to "curate" the Museum properly for the time being. Administrating groups can be a fatiguing and time-sucking process, as I'm sure some of you know.
I hope everyone will hang around as members. At some point it will be re-opening for submissions. I'll be keeping an eye on folks' work and adding it to my personal "favorites" for the day when we get going again. I'm a member at doctor-who-art and many other DW groups- so I'll have my eyes out.

The 'No Slash/ Erotica' rule is toast...
That's right- hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband too- b/c I've ended the Museum's "no erotica" policy. This is on a provisional basis, mind- if it causes too much hassle it's going right out again. Artists will be on their own responsibility to provide appropriate content warnings, etc. And of course, every piece is still gonna be evaluated by my own (purely subjective) standards- which hold that 98% of the erotica art on DA is, well... kinda crap. But there are a small number of artists out there who do impressive DW-themed artwork that isn't getting in simply b/c of that one rule. So for now- it's off!

In honor of the Brig- a highly worthy cause...
Fans are raising money to make a donation to the hospice that cared for Nicholas Courtney in his final days (donated in his name, of course): http://www.justgiving.com/nicholascourtney/
It's a great way to honor the spirit of a very well-liked man, and I'm sure an outpouring of love and respect to Nick would be a comfort to his family and friends right now. Give if ya can- there aren't many better ways to spend your money. :)

i tried commissioning something from someone here on DA. They didn't get back to me ( over 3 weeks - even though they said they were taking commissions) so I made the piece myself. Im not kidding, no more than 5-6 hours later, I got a response back from her, with a link to MY PIECE, saying " you did you mean this? Yes I can copy that." are people seriously that stupid?????
Im so sorry that this is happening to you!!! I am new to cons, but I will keep an eye out!
